Rating - 5 Date: 2008-11-19 Content: I use the Duo-i in my office, and it's the best sounding iPod and FM radio speakers I can recall ever hearing, at any price. I don't use the alarm clock functions, so can't comment on that, but the most important feature for me is audio quality - and Duo-i supremely succeeds! The clarity and warmth is impressive at low and high volumes, and the Duo-i has bass and treble controls which you can use to fine tune the sound to your taste. The remote works well and I use the Duo-i with an 80GB iPod and iPhone 3G. The units charges both, and I also use the Aux 2 input on the back to play music from my Macbook. Compared to the Bose Soundock, the Duo-i sounds much better, far less "canned", has bass and treble controls and costs less! I've tried several other iPod speakers, and the Duo-i is a fantastic-sounding unit and a good value. You won't be disappointed. Summary: Abolutely fantastic Bose killer!
Rating - 5 Date: 2008-11-17 Content: I set out to replace an aging and boring alarm clock radio with a true audio component. I also wanted another iPod dock for the house, though not necessarily for waking up. I spent considerable time web-shopping for just the right gadget -- looked at Bose, Klipsch, Polk, KEF, you name it -- read all the reviews -- changed my mind ten times. For whatever reason, I settled on the Boston Acoustics Horizon Duo-I ([...]) and I'm not the least bit disappointed. It has a full rich sound and all the features you'd want. Took just a few minutes to master the mode knob, making all settings simple and foolproof. Great great sound with FM signals and the iPod too. The little remote control is OK, but I'll probably not use it too much. Overall, I'm pleased and this truly heavy device should live on my nightstand for a long long time. Summary: It's a Keeper!
Rating - 1 Date: 2008-11-02 Content: Looks great in the reviews, but in practice, the buttons did not respond to being pressed (preset 4 and alarm combinations). This got better eventually, and as a result I decided not to return it. BIG MISTAKE.
The unit heats up the table quite a bit, and and the iPod get very hot when docked, uncomfortably so.
I have not been able to get the 2 alarms to work sequentially, and when I "snooze" the alarm, I get 60:00 on the time display - for obvious reasons, the time is the best thing to see when you're thinking about getting up. There have been times when the alram has not gone off... also, if you adjust the volume once the radio alarm has sounded, you will then see the radio tuning info instead of the clock!!!
Not sure if this is by accident or design, since I wrote to Support, and they have not got back to me after 2 weeks. So it's time to publicise the poor design/build of their product.
I bought this to listen to my iPod in my bedroom, and I can't do that. I bought it to wake me up, and I can't rely on its performance. What's it good for???
I recommend not to buy this article. Only buy this from a bricks and mortar retailer, where you can easily and conveniently get your money back if it doesn't work as you expect. Summary: good idea let down by poor design/build
Rating - 5 Date: 2008-10-19 Content: Was in the market for a fairly high quality clock radio with an Ipod dock--I thought the big box stores would be fine for this, and bought an off brand--Crossley, for $80, since there was no Bose with radio and ipod dock. Ended up returning it, and buying this, on sale, through an Amazon affiliate. Very pleased with Boston Acoustics--obviously high quality, substantial machine, with excellent FM reception. Very smart looking too--photos don't do it justice. Summary: great machine
Rating - 5 Date: 2008-10-13 Content: The Boston Acoustics - Horizon Duo-I is an amazing accessory for the Ipod. If you are in another room, you would think that it is a complete sound system playing. The sound is clear and crisp. It is a pleasure to wake up to music (it does not just blast music when it comes on, it gradually increases in volume). You have the ability to adjust the bass/treble to your liking. I would high recommend this item if you are looking for docking system that thinks music first. It also comes with a remote. Summary: Worth every penny!!!
