Editorial Reviews Product Description: Mesmerizing Water Feature This classic Japanese garden feature, known as Shishi Odoshi or Deer Scarer is a mesmerizing water feature that's in strong demand. The gentle rocking motion of the bamboo, combined with the sound of the bamboo striking its destination, is delightfully tranquil. Some people liken the experience to a Zen garden, with the gentle tapping of the bamboo marking time. Bamboo Accents Bamboo Accents has modified the design of the traditional deer chaser to simplify installation and improve durability. This design is a one-piece unit that is affixed to a board for stability. The product is easily installed without the need for tools. Rocking Fountain The Deer Chaser Rocking Fountain comes with a submersible pump, installation instructions, as well as design hints and tips. A great addition to home, office space or garden.

Rating - 3 Date: 2008-09-07 Content: I love the design and the ease of setup, and now that I have it working, it's a very nice addition to our small pond's landscape.
However, if you are planning on running this fountain anywhere than directly over a shallow bowl, you will need a new pump. The pump that ships with the unit is rated for a maximum lift of only 29", and since the outlet is almost 20" above the base, that doesn't leave much extra depth for submerging the pump.
I went to AtticTrunk and picked out a pump that would give me 61" of lift, and now it works great. It's too bad that the sellers of this fountain wouldn't spring for a pump that is actually useful, or at least offer a pump upgrade - now I have an extra pump for which I was forced to pay and for which I have no use.
As for fountain balance, mine was a little bent when I unpacked it, but a little "persuasion" on the fulcrum axle with a pair of pliers did the trick! Summary: I like it, but g.c. is correct...pump is too small
Rating - 5 Date: 2008-08-20 Content: I just love Japanese gardens and recently on a visit to Florida, I happened to see this type of water feature in a beautiful Japanese garden setting. Thanks to Amazon, I was able to locate this one and it works very well and looks beautiful without being too large for a small garden. Summary: Beautiful water feature
Rating - 2 Date: 2008-06-27 Content: This fountain simply does not work. I think the pump is too small. I assembled everything, plugged it in and the water started up the tube, however it didn't make it out the top. The "adjustment" on the pump was worthless. I ended up buying a new pump, which worked, however the bamboo rocking unit is unbalanced and the water never fully empties into the pond. Summary: Deer Chaser Fountain is a disappointment
Rating - 5 Date: 2007-07-15 Content: We love our pond and wanted to make it complete with some kind of running water. Unfortunately we are not able to run electricity to our pond due to its distance from our house. Because of this we had to use a small solar panel and water pump. The deer chaser bamboo fountain is perfect for this set up. It doesn't require a large amount of flowing water to make it work. We have had it for a year now and it still works perfectly! I would recommend this product to anyone wanting something different for their pond or water garden.
Summary: Wonderful feature to our pond
