Editorial Reviews Product Description: Includes 6" Long Bed Jointer - 708457DXK, Front & Rear Safety Guards Amazon.com Review: This is a sweet jointer to use. It is one of the most accurate jointers on the market, which is a critical attribute for a jointer. An accurate jointer means all of your components will fit together perfectly. Using a cheap jointer means the cumulative error of each component will add up, making the final product not square, with loose joints and even not fit together at all. Accuracy makes all the difference in the world for building furniture. This tool is very powerful and doesn’t bog down during use, even with tropical hardwoods. It has an extra long bed and all the control knobs and levers are well placed. This jointer is a very high quality tool and will go the distance with you, building doors, table tops, and other furniture pieces. -- Gabriel Shantara Ford

Rating - 5 Date: 2008-04-24 Content: Great price and great service. Delivery was a breeze and there were no shipping charges. This is what gets me to amazon vice the local woodraft store. My stand had a dent and they offered me a 10% price break since it was not a critical function. They offered to do either. Set up was easy but it is a heavy piece. Just needed someone to help me put the jointer on the stand. You are likely to scratch the top when you manuever the jointer into position. If that is a concern put something under the jointer as you position on the stand. I checked squareness and the level and with the exception of tweaking the installation of the fence all was perfect. Opted to test it at its limit from the start. Squared a piece of 2.5 by 6 inch white oak. Whisper quiet and a perfect cut. I would recommend to any who need a medium to heavy duty jointer. Had a free mobile base from a previous Amazon promotion the that was the ticket for ease of movement. I have found nothing that stops this from a 5* rating. Long time home woodworker. B Summary: Excellent Choice
Rating - 1 Date: 2008-03-11 Content: Make sure that you really want this item because you only have a few hours to cancel if you change your mind. The order is transferred out of Amazons control quickly. Summary: Don't order if your not sure
Rating - 4 Date: 2008-02-10 Content: I'm not an experienced person with jointers but I think I will like the machine once I've become familar with it. I put it together by myself--with the aid of a chain hoist. Would recommend two people. The manual does not do a great job of explaining how to operate --and adjust the infeed or outfeed tables. I think a mobile base is a must for any shop without an abundance of room. The machine is top heavy so don't skimp on the dimensions of the base. Follow the book on set up. Set it up right and it will do a great job. Don't hesitate to call the company and ask questions. Some of the gibs--outfeed esp.--are ackward to reach. Summary: Good machine

I have owned this machine for 10 months now. I have jointed several thousand board feet of hardwood so I've kicked the tires and taken it around the block. The knife alignment system is excellent and works as advertised. Adjustment of depth in feed and out feed is excellent and easy.
The only thing I can fault is getting the fence 90 deg to the bed can be finicky. After locking the fence it moves just a bit out of square. This is really common for jointers of this design. Get yourself a digital tilt box and it's much easy; but if you're using a t-square it can get a little annoying. I also believe this machine is a bit underpowered at times; I have actually ground it to a stop on several occasions.
After several sets of knifes I decided to ditch the stock head with the Byrd tool SHELIX head. Very easy upgrade; just have Byrd install new bearing and it's a 2 hour job to install the new head and reset all tolerances.
Summary: excellent value
Rating - 5 Date: 2007-04-17 Content: I have got this jointer for $540 (including tax). Packaging was absolutely perfect (best I have seen for a heavy, stationary tool). Instruction for assembling is clearly presented with high resolution photos. Knives were perfectly factory-set. Cast iron tables and fence are dead flat (I cannot resolute lesser than 0.002-0.003"); as a result, setting square fence-to-table was just breez.
Operation: Very quite; up to 72" board could be jointed without problem (jointing longer than 72" board needs extra efforts); so far (2 months), initial settings are unchanged.
Comparison to other 6" jointers: I have used Delta with open stand (worth than portable jointers), Delta with close stand (better than portable jointers, a bit better), Ridgid with open stand (my second choice). I also heard opinion of owners of Grizzly's and Rikon's
I really doubt that there is up there better 6" jointer for such a price. Moreover, I doubt that there is better 6" jointer all together. Well, maybe Powermatic's one.
Altogether, I think price for this jointer will reach $800 within year.
Summary: Surrealistic price and awesome quality.
