When you're in the outdoors and you spot wildlife, the first thing you may want is to get a better look. The Night Owl Optics NGM3X National Geographic Elite Edition Monocular gives you the opportunity to do just that without making that hard-to-approach animal or bird take flight. Assembled with high quality materials, this scope includes a 4-piece objective lens, which gathers light, and a 5-piece ocular lens, which is at the end closest to your eye--both made from camera-grade glass.

The NGM3X is coated with rubber for protection against impact and moisture. The body is designed in two pieces to give you a surer, more comfortable grip under any weather conditions. And most impressive of all, with an auto-gain control to normalize the glare of bright light and an infrared indicator for nighttime conditions, the NGM3X lets you view at any hour from dawn to dusk and then into the night. So whether you're trying to catch an early bird, a sun-loving stag, or a moose after a midnight snack, the Night Owl Optics National Geographic Elite Edition Monocular brings you closer to the animal action.

The NGM3X magnifies objects by a factor of three and runs on two AA batteries.

Customer Reviews Average rating - 4.0

Content: This product works very well. It uses 2 AA batteries (alkaline or NiMh rechargeable) instead of what many other night vision scopes use, CRM123 lithium batteries (expensive!).

The built-in, switchable infrared illuminator lights objects up like a spotlight (invisible to the naked eye) for around a hundred yards or so, but even without it, most nights you can see pretty much everything.

The focus on the main lens is good, and there is an adjustment for you to adjust to your own eye in the eyepiece too. This unit magnifies the view by 3 times, which is good, but sometimes I would have liked a little more magnification.

This unit comes with a zippered case and adjustable hand strap. It also comes with a screw on lens cover (no tether, so be careful not to misplace it!) with a tiny hole in it so you can turn on the unit during the day and adjust the focuses.

You must be careful never to turn on the unit without the lens cover in a brightly lit area, or you risk burning out the infrared viewing element. One other thing I've observed...even after you have "powered off" the unit, the viewing element continues to work for several minutes, so remember to put the lens cover back on BEFORE going back to a fully lit area!

Content: The product give clear images with the two focusing adjustment availability. The built in infrared spotlight really illuminates the center viewing area.

Content: This reasonably priced item works just fine--I bought it as a gift for my wife, who likes to watch the wildlife at night. Another Russian-made product broke after just a few months, and I got her this one in place of it. The image quality is excellent, and it also has features that allow you to use it and low and dim light, conditions that could harm other monoculars. All in all, this one's a well-made product for the money.
Summary: excellent product, for the price

Content: This is at the low end for this type of monocular - not in quality, but in expected performance. It does exactly what you'd expect at this price - provide night vision within a couple hundred yards. For better zoom and further range, you'd need binoculars - which wasn't what we needed. Field of vision is a little fuzzy around the edges, but the infrared feature works great in complete darkness and if there's a little bit of ambient light, you don't even need the infrared. Overall it's exactly what we wanted/needed and we're very happy with our purchase.
Summary: does its job just fine

    Rating - 3 Date: 2007-10-17
Content: just got it today, tried it, and it wasn't what I expected. was able to see things in a completely dark room, but the zoom function was not good at all. this monocular is functioning more like a sunglasses that you can see thing in the dark.
Summary: see in the dark, zoom is bad
