Rating - 5 Date: 2008-01-18 Content: I have used McAfee 2006 for over a year and it seems to be faster than Norton. In addition it has adobe reader which installs in two minutes rather than waiting for the "free" online adobe reader (www.adobe.com) that takes hours to install and you are not guaranteed that it will install at the end of the process, from experience. Although McAfee's Adobe Reader is the 5.0 version, it reads all my documents fine and I do not think I need to download the laborious online adobe reader (www.adobe.com) anymore. Yes, McAfee is the way to go. The McAfee antivirus scan always tells me to update to 2007. Although I have the 2007, I am still afraid of using it for fear it may not have an Adobe Reader (let me hope that it does). Past experiences especially with Norton suggests that updating to a new version does not necessarily produce better results. Maybe I will update to McAfee virusscan 2008, while still retaining my 2006 and 2007 Mcafee versions. Norton is a thieving company. I wanted to retain my 2005 Version of it since the 2006 was too sensitive to some of my installments and they cancelled my 2005 version which was working far better. For me, no more Norton, which is bloated, slow and inflexible. Does the McAfee viruscan 2008 have Adobe reader? If it does, I will go for it. For now, it is McAfee all the way... Summary: McAfee is the Way To Go!!!
Rating - 1 Date: 2007-07-17 Content: The McAfee Security Center came with my laptop, so I signed up for a year of updates and let the thing run. I had never before had to deal with virus protection software since I had always used a laptop provided by my company, with the corporate version of whatever they were using installed already.
But the personal laptop I bought was a little different so I sucked it up and placed the order. When the software was enabled, after the first 90 days of ownership of the laptop, I noticed immediately that internet access slowed to a crawl, that general PC performance slowed noticeably and that my frustration level increased proportionally to the decrease in my laptop's responsiveness. So I set about to "tune" McAfee, with help (if you could call it that) from their support team. What a joke. After using the software for about 3 months, I uninstalled it and went "bareback" until this month, when I purchased Norton 360. What a difference. Fast, easy to install, certainly efficient, and an all inclusive package.
I have 8 months of McAfee updates paid for if anyone wants it. I'm keeping my Norton.
Summary: Not my choice
Rating - 1 Date: 2006-11-26 Content: McAfee doesn't honor rebates as advertised. You can follow instructions to the tee and they denied the rebate for "missing" documentation that you did enclosed. Make copys of all documentation and then it's a roll of the dice whether you recieve the rebate. Summary: Beware of McAfee Rebate Scams
Rating - 1 Date: 2006-09-17 Content: Much as it pains me to dump something that is current and paid for, McAfee is such a system-hog that my computer existed only to feed VirusScan's unnatural craving for more system resources. This was once a useful, well-behaved program that got sucessively worse with each upgrade. I got use of my computer back as soon as I uninstalled it. Summary: Slowed to crawl
