Editorial Reviews Product Description: To reintroduce Ancient Charm Into This Vale of Mud and Tears Known Heretofore as the Modern Life.
Customer Reviews Average rating - 4.0
Rating - 4 Date: 2006-01-17 Content: This Amazon Short, which I discovered while sitting in my dentist's office, is one of the strangest things I have ever read. It is a well written satirical look at modern clothing, and takes the point, essentially, that casual day has gone too far. I am particularly amused by the call for mandatory corsets, girdles, and chin straps on clothing in the "five-pronged solution to the modern scourge of stylelessness."
Lord Whimsy particularly rants against items with corporate logos emblazoned on them, and evidently singles out Nike when he refers to a logo as "an overly enthusiastic comma." He then goes on to explain that we have become a nation of "self-made endomorphs" and "infantilized man-toddlers." As in all good satire, the sheer degree of exaggeration used here serves to make a valid point: we are, as a nation, getting fatter and lazier (and worse dressed).
This is an entertainingly written piece on the annoyances of contemporary attire; as such, it succeeds completely, and while not everyone will find the intentionally pompous language to their liking, true word lovers will adore it.
