    Amazon.com Product Description:
The Stanley SP5 5-beam self-leveling laser is the 21st Century's must-have productivity and accuracy enhancing, leveling, and alignment tool. The MP5 offers five independently self-leveled 650nm highly focused laser beams, providing accuracy of 1/4-inch at 100 feet. With this versatile device, you can plumb level and square instantly with no bubbles to level -- just turn it on and go to work. The SP5's unique self-leveling and dampening system is the quickest to settle the beam, and there are no beam offsets -- because they all come from the same axial plane. This reduces errors and set-up time all around. The flashing out-of-level sensor eliminates rechecks and costly mistakes, and the on/off switch locks the lasers in place when they're not in use.

This kit is ideal for a wide variety of construction professionals and do-it-yourselfers, including plumbers, electricians, carpenters, builders, remodelers, machinery installers, interior decorators, dyers, and more. The SP5 includes the universal mount with a magnetic base and mounting strap.

Content: I purchased one of these over three years ago to establish a square corner for a poured concrete wall down in a trench. It worked very well. Since that time, I have found many other uses for the 5-way laser. Mostly, I use it for building layout by checking plumb, level, and square all at the same time. In a pole barn, you can simply place the level on the ground next to a post, climb up to the top with your tape measure and measure over to the laser beam. You will never again worry about a conventional plumb bob blowing in the wind. This 5-way laser is best suited for medium to big projects - especially outdoors - not for indoor picture hanging. It does not project a line on the wall. It projects a precision dot in five directions: Up, Down, Left, Right and Forward - all 90 degrees apart. (I own a picture hanging style level laser for things such as indoor work on a wall and I also own a Spectra Precision dual slope laser with a 3000' range (for those really big jobs)). All things considered, this Stanley Fat Max 5-way laser is one of my favorite tools for building layout, concrete form layout, and quality control. An amazing tool that fits in the palm of your hand.
    Summary: Excellent building layout tool

Content: This laser level projects six laser beam dots that define three lines in a dimensional axis, with the laser level itself at the center of this axis. The first line is straight up and down, the second line straight left to right across the horizon, and the third line is orthogonal to the second line. Keep in mind, however, that these axis are visible only as laser dots! This laser level does not project any visible laser lines, so it is next to useless for things like marking straight lines on existing horizontal or vertical surfaces. (ie, hanging pictures.) The laser level is simply to bulky to be placed against surfaces for the purpose of determining if they are level; the projected laser dot is about 4" away from everything. I suppose you could adjust for that with by taking a bunch of measurements with a ruler, etc., but that wasn't what I had in mind when I bought it. Still, I can only blame myself for not understanding what I was buying.

Summary: Works fine, but not what I wanted.

Content: I bougth this item for my foreman boyfriend as a suprise. He is yet to use it so a follow-up review in the future. However, as soon as he received it, someone at his jobsite mentioned Home Depot sells the item for $199 (regular price). He looked it up the Home Depot homepage and sure enough there it is. I thought of returning the item but Amazon will charge you the cost of return shipment. Not worth it. So, before you purchase it here, check out your local Home Depot. If you happen to have those 10% or 20% off coupon the store sometimes dish out, might be even worth it to just buy it from your local shop. Will be easier to return too if you happen to have a problem with the product later.
Summary: Cheaper to buy from a local Home Depot
