Editorial Reviews Product Description: The JDS Dust Gate system is designed to turn on the dust collector when you open the Dust Gate on your woodworking machine, and turn off your dust collector when the gate is closed. The switches on all Dust Gates are wired to the Central Control Box so that when any of your gates are opened, the dust collector turns on. If several gates are open, the dust collector will not turn off until all gates are closed. Connections can be made with crimp connectors and wire nuts. Simply plug the Central Control Box into the proper electrical outlet, and then plug the dust collector into the Control Box. The Start Up Kit includes 1 Dust Gate, 1 Central Control Box, and 100 ft. of low voltage wire. Amazon.com Product Description: The JDS 110-Volt Dust-Gate Start-Up Kit saves steps, time and energy. Customer Reviews Average rating - 4.0
Rating - 4 Date: 2007-01-02 Content: I have tried using the remote operated switches and could never keep up with the remotes so I ended up walking back to the collector and turning it off manually. I saw this and was impressed with the price so I figured I'd give it a shot before spending a bundle on the one that opens and closes when the machine is started and stopped.
The set up consists of replacing your old blast gates with the new ones and running a wire from the gate back to the control box that your dust collector is plugged into. It took me about 4 hours to install this unit and 4 additional gates. I have been using it for a little over a year now and have been extremely happy with it. An added benefit over the remote control is that you cannot forget to close gates since the collector keeps running until the gate is closed. An added agrivation is that the collector keeps running until the gate is closed so you do find yourself turning the unit off and on more that necessary.
I'd still prefer the automatic gate solution, but for the money saved and my overall satisfaction with this unit it will never happen since I will always find another tool that I just have to have. Summary: Simple and effective
