Customer Reviews Average rating - 4.0

Content: Scanner works great. It is easy to program if you know how to read and follow instructions and find desired frequencies on the web. Those that can't read and follow instructions will find this scanner impossible to put to use.
    Summary: Works Great

Content: People say our society has becomed "dumbed down": you know, Samuel L. Clemens' name has been stricken from library files because too few people know he is "Mark Twain"; rather than buy components, most of us are advised to buy "home theater" equipment even if we only want the audio; even cell phones are becoming rolling packs of trivia and "personalized" ring tones.

Fear not, for one aspect of American life has remained as technically frustrating, jargon-laden and obscurantist as any pedant could want: scanners. Specifically this one. Oh, it works where it is supposed to work but it is darn difficult to program.

And worst of all for me, I simply have not been able to get it to accept signals in the 160-161 Mhz frequencies to follow my railroading hobby. As a transpotter, I must have those frequencies because it is only in those frequencies that the federal government and the Association of American Railroads permit communication. Betty Bearcat, why are you so hard to deal with?

Perhaps my cousin would like it? He goes to NASCAR races down in North Carolina.

Summary: Solid unit, but not for me

Content: Very difficult to understand directions . Programing is hard to understand . The scanner works very well for the knowledge that I have of it . It seems to be of top quality performance wise and works well . Still have problems performing basic functions by following the directions . The scanner reminds me of the early computers that only computer geeks could understand . This would be a great product for the price if the programing were more people friendly like today's computers . Eventually I will master all of it's functions but it is like pulling teeth . If you have a friend that already has this scanner definetly buy it . Let the friend set it up to get you started .

Content: This is my second unit and I have not had any problems with either of them. The battery life is about a day, which is great, considering you can charge the NiMH batteries with the included charger. The programming interface is simple, it doesn't dirty easily and is easily cleaned anyway. Great reception, with the big antenna. Fast shipping with this seller... truely a great product. Remember that this product holds 10 banks of 20 frequencies. If you are looking for something smaller, Bearcat has a BC72XLT which is 10 x 10... usually about 20$ less. But an equally quality product. A++++++
    Summary: Excellent Product

Content: Now we get to be the neighborhood nosey neighbor that knows whats going on. It works OK, but it was a real pain getting the frequency codes so we could listen to the different transmissions we wanted to hear.
