Editorial Reviews Product Description: Features:Heats Soup, Chili, Stews...Water for BeveragesSingle Spiral Heating ElementVariable Heat Settings Heating Element Tilts for Easy Cleaning Quick Heating750 Watts Amazon.com Review: This small, single burner hot plate has only a 9-inch diameter, making it easy to squeeze into a small efficiency or RV kitchen as an additional cooking surface when needed. The electric burner has a spiral heating element that rests over a chrome ring and drip pan. A plastic base encases all the chrome components and eliminates heat transfer so countertops stay safe when the burner is in use. The temperature control knob on the front of this hot plate sets it to one of three temperatures. When cooking is complete and the plate has cooled down, the burner lifts up and the chrome pan wipes out with a soapy cloth. This product is covered by a limited one-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

Rating - 1 Date: 2008-12-13 Content: Can't boil water unless you put a lid on. Took 1 hour to cook a few slices of bacon. There is simply not enough wattage. It seems some of the high ratings are from people using it in a smoker. I guess that would be a good use for it. We went and bought the Proctor Silex. Summary: Not hot enough
Rating - 1 Date: 2008-08-05 Content: These last a long, long time. In fact, once they land in a dump, you can expect them to last a hundred years or more.
I bought one from this company, almost identical to this one. It started shocking me within a week or two. Summary: shocked me within a week
Rating - 3 Date: 2008-07-26 Content: This hot plate works well for heating up sauces or sweating/carmelizing vegetables. But it will not brown meat or seafood when trying to sauté or sear. The unit heats up fast but then starts to cycle on and off even on very low temps. It will get the pan nice and hot and then shut down and cool then get hot again. I could not even get a good sear on scallops, forget about beef. If all you want to do is heat soup/sauces, or sweat onions then buy. If you want to get a nice sear on your steak then look elswhere. Summary: Not good for sautéing or searing
Rating - 1 Date: 2008-04-14 Content: Product was defective, but despite my delay in returning the hotplate, a refund was quickly issued. They even called to apologize. Great customer service! I would definitely buy from them again. Summary: defective but fast refund
Rating - 2 Date: 2008-04-06 Content: It worked pretty well in the beginning. Now it's impossible to regulate the temperature. Even on the low setting, it's very hot. Have been using for 8 or 10 months, and not every day. Summary: Okay at first, then downhill.
