Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com:
Young Argentine guitarist Federico Aubele became transfixed with the music of Astor Piazzolla even as he listened to the cool lounge sounds of Thievery Corporation and the Six Degrees label. Incredibly, he put these influences together for an exceptional debut album entitled Gran Hotel Buenos Aires. It's produced by the Thievery guys, but one gets the sense that this really came from Aubele. He surrounds his downtempo beats delicate acoustic guitar figures, an array of sexy women singers (all vocals are in Spanish), and a rich tapestry of sounds and tones. Pushing flamenco and various styles of Latin music to the fore, he also draws upon dub and ambient, and it's the grace of this hip fusion that puts Aubelle up there with such genre benders as Manu Chao and the Gotan Project. Highlights include the upbeat "Ante Tus Ojos" and the rich Latin groove "Esta Noche," but the album is strong from beginning to finish. A truly impressive first effort. --Tad Hendrickson

Content: Excellent chill CD, but very distinctively Argentinian. Mixes chill beats with traditional Argentinian tango very effectively--the bandoneon, so typical of tango, is omnipresent, as is Aubele's fine guitar work.

The (female) vocalists have very strong Argentinian accents and styles, and are sexy as can be. The way the vocalist pronounces the word "ya" (now) in "Contigo" will make your knees weak if you know even a bit of Spanish. Aubele's singing isn't bad either. "Contigo" is both sexy and funny, if you understand much Spanish. If you don't, it'll make you want to learn.

The use of taped effects that reference the Argentinian musical past is fascinating, as is the way Aubele handles it technologically and artistically, from the very start--especially from the very start--of this magnificent disc.
Summary: Superb Argentinian Chill

Content: I'm a huge Thievery Corp fan and Federico's release is just as good or better than anything TC has released. The flavor and execution of Gran Hotel has been described already in other posts. You won't regret the purchase.
Summary: Flawless

Content: This CD is so cool. The rhythm and sound throughout the entire CD is spellbinding. The songs are so eclectic. The CD could easily fit in the background to your next get together, to sipping coffee, reading a book, a romantic dinner or even just driving around in your car. If you enjoy guitar and Spanish style music this is a MUST for your collection.
Summary: Spellbinding - excellent CD to listen to anywhere

Content: This is one of my favorite albums! Everything in this album is masterfully done: music, vocals, sounds, arrangement and reverbs :)

My thanks to Thievery Corporation for the production of this great CD.

Sumaia O's vocals are beautiful specially on Besos de sal, Ante Tus Ojos, Un Lugar and Diario de vijae.

I don't speak spanish but everything sounds great to my ears.

The sounds (bass, guitar, horns and vocals) on Beso de sal are great and this song and album are addictive!!!
Summary: An excellent album
