Editorial Reviews Product Description: An important addition to the DX Nikkor lens lineup, the first fisheye lens designed specifically for digital SLR photography is also the first to achieve a full-frame 180-degree picture angle. The ultra-wideangle focal length of 10.5mm brings digital camera users a picture angle equivalent to that of a 16mm fisheye lens on a 35mm [135] format camera. The lens is targeted at Nikon DX Format digital SLR camera users who seek the unique visual effects a full-frame fisheye lens lends to landscape and other shots, to taking close-ups, or when shooting within vehicles or other tight interiors. The AF DX Fisheye-Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G ED excels at shooting extreme close-ups. Combining a minimum focus distance of just 3cm (1.2 in.) from the front of the lens with Nikon's Close-Range Correction (CC) System ensures sharp results. The new "Fisheye to Wideangle Transformation" function in the optional Nikon Capture 4 software package transforms diagonal fisheye images shot using the AF DX Fisheye-Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G ED to ultra-wideangle photos, (by transforming the type of projection). This is an appealing new feature made possible only with digital photography and with the Nikon Total Imaging System.Optical and close-range focusing performances are both optimized for Nikon DX Format digital SLR cameras. An ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element minimizes chromatic aberration for clear, natural colors, and the rounded seven-blade diaphragm opening ensures a natural look to out-of-focus elements. This G-type Nikkor lens is designed with no aperture rings. Its operation is easy and virtually mistake-free because the aperture does not have to be set to minimum. The compact, lightweight design fits comfortably in the hand. And photographers at all levels will be pleased with its outstanding cost performance.

Summary: LUIS LENS
Rating - 5 Date: 2008-11-27 Content: I cannot say enough great things about this lens. I have a blast shooting with it - it always brings a smile to my face. It's reasonably fast and VERY compact. if you're more than a few feet away from your subject, you can safely "defish" your images with a wide variety of software tools - and the results are fantastic, even if you lose some of the details on the sides. Of course, you shouldn't buy this lens if you only plan on defishing to get a rectilinear image, but sometimes the ability to do that is useful. Another amazing aspect of this lens is the ability to focus VERY close to the lens - probably about an inch from the glass. It will not autofocus on a D40, but you can usually focus between 2 feet and infinity and expect the entire image to be sharp. It's a very unique and fun lens. Summary: The most fun I've ever had with a lens
Rating - 5 Date: 2008-10-24 Content: Having used this lens in the past, purchasing it was an eventuality, rather than a question of whether or not I would buy it. In comparison to other super-wide and/or fisheye lenses, Nikon's build quality is among the best you can get. This lens is very bright, and tends to lean toward over-exposure with in-camera metering (on my D300, at least). Being engineered for DX format SLRs, the 10.5mm focal length is perfect for capturing the inside of tight spaces, and has proven useful to me for shooting automotive interiors, close-quarters architectural work, and some skate photography. Distortion can be removed in Photoshop if need be, although not entirely (if you're looking for an aspherical lens, check out the 14mm). The autofocus on this lens is fantastic, even in low light. Despite being an AF lens (rather than AF-S), the focusing is quick, as the in-focus range is very large. Also worth noting:
1.) This is not an easy lens to jump into using. Being as wide as it is, you need to concentrate hard on your composition, and try to be creative. Have fun!
2.) Close-ups are easy, as the minimum focus distance is 1" in front of the lens...be careful with your front element!
3.) This is one of the "Made in Japan" lenses...you get the quality that you're paying for.
4.) Flares aren't easy to get...this is a blessing and a curse, depending on how you typically deal with lens flares. For example, shooting a wide shot in a park, and trying to get some flare from the corner of the lens from the sun won't work.
Buy this lens if you need it, and you'll enjoy it. It frees up your creativity, and is versatile for almost any lighting situation. I would easily recommend this to anyone that shoots Nikon and wants something fun to shoot with. Summary: Sharp, Wide, and Bright. Not much more you could ask for.
Rating - 5 Date: 2008-09-30 Content: this lens is worth every penny. you can "de-fish" any undesired distortion, and it's the ONLY way to get pics in very small rooms. a (much) cheaper lens will give you distortion around the edges that you will be forced to crop out. Summary: worth it
Rating - 5 Date: 2008-08-02 Content: This lens is the perfect addition to my relatively small collection of lenses. I just got it yesterday after work, and have not been able to stop playing with it. After a while of fiddling around to figure out how to actually squeeze some cool shots out of this bad boy, the instant classics started flowing like water. However, it is pretty difficult to get a decent composition sometimes due to of the insanely large FOV. But I would recommend this lens to anyone. Compared to most other lenses, the price is right for this fisheye, and it produces great photos (once you develop a good technique). I can't wait to use it on my Trip to Europe at the end of this month! Summary: Incredibly Fun.
