Editorial Reviews Amazon.com Review: With its ample dimensions and burly construction, this commercial 5-quart KitchenAid mixer is prepared to be a culinary beast of burden. Smartly engineered so that the beater moves clockwise while the shaft moves counterclockwise, the beater reaches every part of the bowl without requiring it to rotate. Five mixing speeds plus a stir setting means the appliance can do everything from folding cranberries into biscotti to whipping up a fluffy meringue. The all-metal construction includes a heavy-duty motor to handle stiff batters and a hardwearing transmission that ensures continuous power. The mixer’s seamless, stainless-steel, 5-quart bowl stands flat on its indented base and features sealed handle and bracket connections that meet NSF standards. A professional-style bowl lift raises it easily and securely into position, even if it’s brimming with weighty dough. The mixer comes with a burnished flat beater, a burnished dough hook, and a commercial wire whip. The flat beater is perfect for mixing cake batters, mashing potatoes, and stirring quick breads. The dough hook comes in handy for breads and coffee cakes, and the wire whip is your tool for icings and whipped cream. Four sealed rubber feet hold the mixer stably in place, and a 3-wire, 6-foot power cord meets commercial requirements. As a safety mechanism, the overload reset button pops out if the mixer is overloaded, and the motor shuts off. If you only bake occasionally, a less heavy-duty unit will do the job. But if you work or recreate in the kitchen, this hard-working mixer can keep the pace. --Emily Bedard

Rating - 4 Date: 2009-01-06 Content: I gave it a four because once the batter was mixed and as I poured it into the pan, I noticed that the mix in the bottom center of the bowl was not mixed at all. The powder mix was still in its original form. I have a friend who mentioned that she also experienced the same with hers. Could this be a flaw with the lift? Summary: KitchenAid Stand Mixer
Rating - 5 Date: 2008-12-27 Content: Best mixer I've ever had. Had this model before but lost it in a house fire. So glad to see that it is still available. Haven't used this new one, but previous model could do everything. If you get it you should't ever be disappointed. Summary: best ever !!!
Rating - 5 Date: 2008-12-06 Content: I have had the professional mixer for over 14 years and I still love it. It still works beautifully and never had a problem I barely had to replace the mixer attachement but otherwise then that is looks as good as new. I loved to bake as a child and received this as a christmas present from santa when I was 8. Seems a little strange but I have loved it. It took me through culinary school and now helps me feed my family of 6.
Make sure you get the proffesional series if you want to bake breads and make large vats of stuff. Great for mashed potatoes!! Summary: 14 years and still going strong
Rating - 5 Date: 2008-07-14 Content: This is an older model Most of the newer models available have a different bowl and would not be conpatible with the older interchageable parts. If you have a legacy unit, perhaps inherited from a family member, scoop this one up. You will not be sorry.
It is the perfect replacement for the same model, purchased over 30 years ago. The original, used several times weekly for home made breads, and family cooking 3 meals a day for 4 hungry athletes and an extended family, finally showed its age by affecting the conventional speed control. I am a trained home economist, having spent my early years in the developmental kitchens of a well know frozen food line, and over 50 years raising my family.
Local repairs in my area are non existent, and it would appear that sending the unit out of state would not be cost effective.
Deciding that the useful life of the housing has come to an end, I chose to purchase the equivalent model, with the newer electronic speed control, since I already have a full line of accessories, bowls and inserts that fit the original and will grandfather over to the new unit. It works beautifully. I am a happy camper. Summary: 30 years and counting
Rating - 5 Date: 2008-06-15 Content: This mixer truly excels in getting the job done!!
I've had it for over two years now. Probably not enough experience to brag about, but I bought this machine based soley on the experience and perfomance of the slightly smaller K-45SS Stand Mixer which has been in use in my kitchen for a whopping 22 years!!
But I've used it for just about every mixing job possible, and it performs amazingly!! It's quick, efficient and truly powerful! I especially like its heavy duty all-metal construction and the powerful 325-watt motor. I was going to get the 5-quart Artisan model until I found out the this machine has the same power, and I like the convience of a bowl-lift model, so I chose THIS one instead.
I must admit though, that it almost died last year when I bought that ill-fated grinder attachment for it and trid it out. That thing almost killed it!! Liquid began to back flow and leak into the transmission, causing it to run sporatically! Never again will I trust that thing!!
But the the mixer has since rebounded back with tremendous resillience and toughness after the motor had labored almost to the point where I almost was faced with a $125.00 cost to repair the machine!
Proof that this machine can take it on the chin and still deliver great performance time after time!! It's a real trooper. You certainly won't go wrong with this machine! It's durable, powerful and has the power and torque that's necessary to plow throgh the heaviest doughs and batters with the greatest of ease!!
The powerful 325-watt motor has exclusive speed and load control which helps it adjust itself to adapt to all types of mixing jobs. It won't bog down or labor during mixing!!
