Rating - 1 Date: 2008-10-29 Content: I bought the Hunter remote control to control the hunter original fan I bought. The installer could not fit the control electronics in the shrould, so he placed it in the attic, and fed the antenna into the shroud. The control turns the fan on and off, and changes speeds perfectly. The only, BIG, problem is that the fan comes on by itself even if no one is home. We had to pay an electrician close to $300 to install a cut off switch, so the fan electronics could not start the fan if the switch is in off status. At least now, we can leave the house knowing the fan will not be running full force without us being home. I am not pleased that the only Hunter remote control won't properly control a Hunter fan. Also, on the site where I purchased the fan, there was no note of this problem, or advice not to use this remote with a Hunter Original fan. Summary: Not recommended for use with hunter original fan
Rating - 2 Date: 2008-09-12 Content: I have replaced the receiver twice because of lights blowing out. Each time a light goes the receiver stops functioning correctly. The first time the unit wouldn't operate at all so I spent $32 and 2 hours of my time replacing it. The second time the unit still controls the fan, but now the light is either on or half-way dim--won't go off and the gradual dim function doesn't work at all. Hunter's suggestion is a new unit. No way. I am looking for a better product. Summary: Light blows, remote controller goes
Rating - 1 Date: 2008-08-18 Content: I've had many Hampton Bay fans in the past but not so much in future purchases. If you have a plain Jane chain pull, then you're safe to go. However, the upgraded ones with the remotes leave a lot to be desired. The warranty for 25 years only covers the motor, NOTHING ELSE.
In researching why my fan failed after two years of operation I opened up Pandora's Box so to speak. The remote and receivers are made by Rhine based in TW. They have a very weak capacitor design and break down anywhere from one to two years. The failure range from blown capacitors or shorted ones which kind of ooze gray matter all over the inside of the receiver. I've spent three weeks sending emails and going to forums to try to find the manufactureer of these capacitors and they are made by Carli in China, However you can't buy them here, and they won't answer any emails.
So the long and the short of it is, in my case I cannot change it over to a pull chain type so essentially it is scrap.
For some odd reason my paying for a two hundered dollar fan and be told I have to pay for a weak designed receiver just doesn't do well with me.
Good luck Summary: Hampton Bay in general
