Editorial Reviews Product Description: You are holding something very special: a part of the ancient past and, perhaps, a part of your future.
Based on a tradition over one thousand years old, this contemporary Oracle has established itself as a remarkable aid in practical decision making. When first published in 1983, R. Buckminster Fuller said: "What a wonderful thing to have done-midwife the rebirth of an ancient oracle."
A huge success with over 700,000 copies sold, The Book of Runes has proved itself to be a modern classic. For this, the tenth anniversary of the work, Ralph H. Blum has expanded and refined the runic system, making the Runes the most profoundly useful self-help tool of our era.
Customer Reviews Average rating - 3.5
Rating - 5 Date: 2008-12-09 Content: I've owned this version for over a year, and I can say that not only is the writing beautiful, it is insightful and accurate. I've read reviews about rune interpretation on other websites, but if you don't pay attention to what others say and use the runes for spiritual guidance, it'll get you where you need to go. I also like that Blum's interpretation dovetails quite nicely with Buddhist teachings. Once you begin to use them, you'll see how accurate they are. I recommend this book highly. Summary: Good, solid guidance
Rating - 5 Date: 2008-08-14 Content: I originally bought this when I was curious about divination, as other forms of divination didn't seem to be worth the trouble that it took to try to become good with them. Then, at the suggestion of a friend, I bought this set.
I have owned this for more than 10 years and have used it fairly regularly.
I don't know how historically accurate or not the author's interperetations are, but his definitions of what each rune stands for and how they interact are eerily accurate.
I am not a rune master and never will be, but I find them easier to use and more accurate than Tarot.
The stones are a little difficult to spiritually charge, but they can be, and become even more accurate.
As another reviewer said, no real magick, but you get out what you put in.
I would buy this book and the runes again, should anything happen to my old set.
I highly recommend it for the seeker as a beginning set, and a good first step for those that become serious rune users. Summary: Excellent source for beginners.
Rating - 5 Date: 2008-06-04 Content: This is the first rune deck that I purchased. I had read tarot & oracle cards in the past with success, so I was skeptical whether this type of divination would prove beneficial. After owning this set for a number of years I can say with utmost confidence that it is truly uncanny. I've never done a reading that didn't ring true or come true with the passage of time. I also find it intriguing that I pull (from the grey velvet bag of multiple runes) many of the same runes until that period in my life passes. The smaller harcover guidebook reminds me of an old vintage book store and the contents are helpful in terms of lore, spreads, and rune interpretation. If you are considering this as your first rune set, then I'd say you have made a very good choice. Summary: Startlingly Accurate
Rating - 4 Date: 2008-01-12 Content: Very interesting and exposing insights into oneself on this journey of transparency. The ancients have very much to teach. Summary: The Book of Runes
Rating - 1 Date: 2007-12-10 Content: Indeed; someone else here mentioned that Blum is a treasure trove of MISinformation. This book is terrible. I'm another one who would give it 0 stars if possible. He scrambles up the order of the elder futhark, and if he knew anything about this stuff, he'd realize there is a reason for the runes to go in the traditional order that they do. He admitted that his first exposure to the runes was on mimeographed sheets with no page numbers, so he had no idea what order to put them in. He should have done research on it before writing a book. Avoid this book and read Edred Thorsson instead. Summary: Blum's Book of Runes
